Types and Basic Knowledge of Steel Structures

Portal frame steel structure is the mainstream type for small prefabricated workshops. It consists of welded H-section columns and rafters, together with purlins, wall girts, horizontal and vertical bracing systems. The rigid portal frame bears wind load, live load and seismic load efficiently with self-weight much lighter than reinforced concrete structures. Other common steel structure categories include frame structure, truss structure and space frame structure. Multi-storey factories adopt frame structures with rigid beam-column connections. Trusses and space frames are applied for extra-large span roofs. For most small factories, light portal frame design achieves the best balance between cost and structural safety. All design follows international codes, with wind load, seismic load and roof live load calculated according to the project’s geographic location.

Surface Treatment

Two mainstream surface treatments are available: hot-dip galvanizing and anti-corrosion paint coating. Anti-corrosion paint includes primer and topcoat, widely used for general workshops. Hot-dip galvanizing offers superior anti-rust performance for humid or corrosive environments, extending service life significantly.

Erection Manual

A complete erection manual will be supplied together with assembly drawings. It covers foundation check, main frame installation, bracing and purlin assembly, wall and roof panel installation, flashing and gutter fitting, as well as safety operation guidelines. Every marked component has a matching position on drawings, guiding local construction teams to complete installation smoothly. With clear documentation, the whole erection work can be finished by local workers with basic construction experience.
